COOPER SMITH & ALEX HOSKING TURN OVERTHINKING INTO DANCEFLOOR RELEASE “O.V.E.R.”

For Cooper Smith, sometimes the best ideas come from getting stuck inside your own head.

The fast-rising Melbourne DJ and producer joins forces with Australian singer-songwriter Alex Hosking on their new single “O.V.E.R.”, a driving new dance record born from Cooper’s own self-awareness around something he knows all too well: overthinking absolutely everything.

The idea came together during a studio session with Cooper, Alex and Jess, Cooper’s support worker, where a conversation about Cooper’s constant tendency to analyse, replay and second-guess situations quickly became the foundation of the song. Rather than looking outside themselves for a concept, the trio leaned directly into Cooper’s own experiences, turning that restless internal dialogue into the record’s central hook and ultimately its title: O.V.E.R.

It’s a fitting next chapter for an artist whose identity has always been inseparable from the way he approaches both life and music. Born with cerebral palsy, Cooper has built his career around challenging expectations rather than being defined by them — bringing the same energy and openness to the creative process behind “O.V.E.R.”

Hosking is also no stranger to that territory. The Adelaide-born, internationally established singer-songwriter broke through globally with PS1 collaboration “Fake Friends,” a UK Top 20 hit, and has since built an extensive catalogue across pop, house and electronic music. For Cooper, “O.V.E.R.” arrives in the middle of a major period of growth.

Since teaching himself to DJ as a teenager, he has rapidly progressed from lunchtime sets in his school gym to stages including Ultra Music Festival Australia, Snow Machine Japan, Beyond The Valley and the Australian Open, alongside support slots for James Hype, Meduza, Groove Armada and Rudimental. His growing production catalogue has also included an official remix of James Hype’s “Waterfalls”. Before its release, however, “O.V.E.R.” has already been doing its most important testing ground: the dancefloor. Cooper has been dropping the unreleased ID throughout his current Australian tour, where it has quickly become one of the standout unreleased moments of his sets — building anticipation for a record that began as a very personal observation and has turned into something thousands of people can relate to.

Because whether it’s a relationship, a text message, a conversation or the person you can’t get out of your head, sometimes you just need to stop thinking… Or at least try.
