SALLOK – known offstage as Sal – was born in Sicily, where his early years were shaped by the island’s rich cultural energy and the influence of Mount Etna’s dramatic landscape. Surrounded by vinyl records and inspired by his Aunt Isabella’s classical piano performances, he developed a deep connection to music early on.
Sal began studying Classic and Jazz Piano at a young age, fostering the technical foundation that continues to inform his work today. Alongside this classical training, he was driven by a desire to form a sound that reflected his own artistic identity.
In his early twenties, Sal’s interest expanded into electronic music, influenced by the innovations of The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, and Orbital. Their use of sampling, rhythm, and atmosphere sparked his shift into electronic production – a move that marked the beginning of a long and evolving creative path.
At 29, Sal relocated to the United Kingdom. There, he broadened his repertoire to include Techno House, Deep House, and Drum & Bass, collaborating with vocalists from a wide range of backgrounds. This versatility has allowed him to continually adapt to new sounds and trends while maintaining his own musical identity.
Over the last five years, Sal has been a key part of MITAD, a duo formed with singer-songwriter Katherine Downham. Their projects include two EPs, most notably “Fighting with Fire,” released in 2019 and featured on BBC Introducing. The success of the EP also led to a live interview at the BBC Hertfordshire studios, reinforcing Sallok’s growing profile within the UK music scene.
Katherine has described their collaboration as open, supportive, and creatively fulfilling – attributes that reflect Sal’s approach to music-making.
